Mtoni Palace

Constructed in 1831 for Said bin Sultan, the fifth ruler of Oman’s Busaid dynasty, Mtoni Palace stands as a historical landmark in Tanzania. Best known as the childhood home of Princess Salme, the sultan’s youngest daughter and author of Memoirs of an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar, the palace offers a glimpse into the royal life of the 19th century. Today, though in ruins, visitors can still explore the remnants of this once-grand residence, imagining the opulence and daily life of its former inhabitants.
