Built on the orders of Louis XVI in 1767, Fort St. Louis perches atop a cliff overlooking Marigot, the capital of the French side of Saint Martin / Sint Maarten. The fort’s formidable walls and cannons, once used to protect the island from invading powers and pirates, remain in excellent condition. Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved structures and see the French flag still waving, offering a tangible link to the island’s colonial past.
