Santo Niño Basilica (Basílica del Santo Niño)

Cebu’s Basilica del Santo Niño, also known as the Basilica of Santo Niño, has its origins in a dramatic event. In 1565, one of conquistador Legazpi’s men discovered an unharmed statue of Jesus amidst the burning ruins of a hostile native village. This statue, considered the oldest religious artifact in the Philippines, became the focal point for the construction of the church. Today, visitors can explore the basilica, which stands as a testament to the enduring history and faith of the region.
