Baclayon Church

Completed in 1727, the Baclayon Church stands as a testament to Spain’s first colonial settlement on Bohol, built by 200 slave laborers using coral stone. Originally, it likely replaced an older bamboo structure. The church’s facade and watchtower suffered significant damage during the 2013 earthquake, and the marks of the 2018 restoration are still visible. Today, visitors can explore this historic site and observe the blend of original and restored elements, offering a glimpse into the region’s colonial past.
