Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng)

The Goddess of Mercy Temple, also known as Kuan Yin Teng, is Penang’s oldest Chinese temple and a significant hub for the local Chinese community. Located on George Town’s Street of Harmony, it stands alongside Muslim, Christian, and Hindu places of worship, reflecting the area’s diverse cultural tapestry. Inside, devotees burn paper money in metal vessels, and neon pink incense sticks smolder, filling the air with a fragrant, hazy ambiance. Protective dragons guard the inner sanctum, adding to the temple’s traditional and reverent atmosphere. Visitors can observe these rituals and soak in the rich cultural heritage that the temple embodies.
