Treaty Stone

By the banks of the River Shannon, a chunk of limestone known as the Treaty Stone stands on a pedestal. This stone marks the site where, in 1691, a peace treaty was signed to end the Williamite War, intended to secure freedom for Ireland’s Catholics. Despite its historical significance, the terms of the treaty were ultimately ignored, leading Limerick to be known as ‘the City of the Broken Treaty.’ Today, visitors can view this emblematic stone and reflect on the pivotal moment it represents in Irish history.
