Perched in the hills near the Taipei Zoo, Chih Nan Temple was founded in 1882, making it one of Taiwan’s oldest temples. The temple blends Taoist, Confucian, and Buddhist traditions across its four main halls and five smaller halls. At the heart of the temple, a courtyard is believed to be the dwelling place of Lu Tang Pin, a Confucian scholar revered as the immortal Deliverer from Poverty. Families often visit with their young children, offering them as foster sons or daughters of Patriarch Lu, a practice thought to help cure their ills.
