Perched atop the peak of Busan’s Mount Geumjeong, Geumjeongsanseong stands as the largest mountain fortress in South Korea. The original fort is believed to have been constructed during the Three Kingdoms Period, from 57 BC to 668 AD. The 2.5-mile-long structure that visitors see today, however, dates back to 1703, built as a defensive measure against potential Japanese invasions following the Imjin War at the end of the 16th century. Today, the imposing ruins offer a popular hiking destination, where visitors can explore the historical remnants and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
