Battlebox

Beneath Fort Canning Hill, 30 feet underground, lies the Battlebox, a secretive British military fort that played a pivotal role in Singapore’s history. During World War II, it served as the command center for the Malaya Command, tasked with defending Singapore. It was here that Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival made the fateful decision to surrender Singapore to the Japanese, signaling the decline of the British Empire. Today, visitors can explore the 29-room, gray-walled labyrinth, which is now a museum filled with lifelike wax mannequins and antique photos and video clips, offering a glimpse into the final days of the war.
