Completed in 1963, the Arrábida Bridge spans Portugal’s Douro River, connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. At 890 feet (270 meters) long, it held the title of the largest concrete-arch bridge at the time of its completion. The bridge’s defining feature is its impressive arch, which visitors can now experience by walking up a granite staircase with the safety of a harness. This unique opportunity offers a close-up view of the bridge’s engineering and a panoramic vista of the surrounding landscape.
