Fátima

In the heart of Portugal, near Lisbon, lies Fátima, a significant pilgrimage site for the Catholic Church. The area gained its sacred status in May 1917 when three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Today, visitors can see a marble pillar with a statue of Our Lady marking the exact spot of these visions in the Chapel of Apparitions (Capelinha das Aparições). The site also includes two impressive basilicas: Basilica de Nossa Senhora de Fátima and Basílica da Santíssima Trindade, which together form a complex that draws pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
