Yanaka

Yanaka, one of Tokyo’s most traditional and charming districts, evokes the atmosphere of Edo-period Tokyo (17th–19th centuries), a time long lost in many parts of the city. Nestled within this neighborhood are over 70 temples, many relocated here during the Edo period to protect them from frequent fires. The area, often referred to as Yanesen, encompasses three historical neighborhoods: Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi. Visitors today can explore the narrow streets, discover the historic temples, and experience a slice of old Tokyo, where the past is preserved in the quiet, serene surroundings.
